This research explores the significance of memory within mythology, particularly in the context of Kavita Kane’s mythopoeic work Lanka’s Princess (2017). Also, it delves into the pivotal role of memory in overcoming oppression, a recurrent theme in fiction, where female characters are shown as oppressed. When faced with threats, real or anticipated, these characters exhibit a complex neuroendocrine stress response. The paper focuses on Surpanakha, the protagonist, consistently silenced by others, who stores her oppressions as powerful memories. The research showcases how Surpanakha strategically employs her memories as a formidable weapon for revenge, demonstrating the profound impact of memory on navigating obstacles. The narrative unfolds through the flashes of memories experienced by Surpanakha, contributing to the intricate twists and turns of the story arc. Further, this paper explores the effects of memory on the storyline, identifying a significant scope for memory studies within the context of mythopoeic literature.
