Abstract

Yoga has long been recognized for its mental health benefits, particularly in reducing anxiety and depression. This study examines the effects of yoga practice on mental health among young adults in India. We conducted a randomized controlled trial with 200 participants aged 18-30, dividing them into a yoga intervention group and a control group. The intervention group practiced yoga for 12 weeks, focusing on pranayama (breathing techniques), asanas (postures), and meditation. Our findings show a significant reduction in anxiety and depression levels in the yoga group compared to the control group, as measured by standardized psychological assessments. The paper discusses the potential of yoga as a complementary therapy for mental health disorders and calls for its integration into mental health programs, particularly for young adults facing stress and emotional challenges.
