Abstract

The advent of 5G technology is expected to revolutionize smart city infrastructure, enabling faster communication, improved connectivity, and real-time data processing. This paper examines the impact of 5G on smart city development in South Korea, with a focus on transportation, public safety, and energy management. By analyzing smart city projects in Seoul and Busan, we explore how 5G networks have enhanced sensor-driven traffic systems, emergency response times, and energy efficiency. The findings reveal that 5G technology significantly improves data transmission speeds, allowing for real-time decision-making in urban management. However, challenges such as the high cost of infrastructure and security vulnerabilities remain. The paper concludes by recommending policy interventions to ensure widespread and secure 5G deployment in smart cities.
